Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 8, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Chats Only ("Chats Only," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information when you visit www.chatsonly.com or use the Chats Only application and related services (collectively, the "Services"). It also explains the choices and rights that may be available to you.

By using the Services, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Services.

1. Information we collect

The information we collect depends on how you use the Services.

Information you provide

  • Account and profile information: information such as your name, username, email address, login credentials, profile details, and other information you choose to add to your account.
  • Discovery information: your interests, topics, questions, conversation starters, answers, opinions, experiences, language, location preferences, and matching preferences.
  • Content and communications: posts or starters you publish, private messages you exchange with matches, and communications you send to us.
  • Safety information: reports, blocks, appeals, supporting materials, and other information you provide when reporting an account, conversation, or piece of content.
  • Support information: information included in support requests, feedback, surveys, or other correspondence.

Information collected automatically

When you access the Services, we and service providers acting on our behalf may automatically collect technical information, including:

  • IP address and approximate location derived from it;
  • Device type, operating system, browser type, language, and device identifiers;
  • Pages or screens viewed, links selected, access times, referring pages, and other usage activity;
  • Login, crash, diagnostic, performance, and security logs; and
  • Cookie, local-storage, and similar technology data.

Information from other sources

We may receive information about you from other users, such as when they interact with your content or submit a safety report, and from vendors that help us operate, secure, and support the Services.

2. How we use information

We may use personal information to:

  • Create, authenticate, maintain, and secure accounts;
  • Operate the discovery feed and display conversation starters, interests, and profile information;
  • Recommend and rank content or potential matches based on interests and preferences;
  • Create mutual matches and provide private one-to-one messaging;
  • Remember settings and personalize the Services;
  • Send service announcements, security alerts, support messages, and other administrative communications;
  • Respond to questions, feedback, and requests;
  • Detect spam, fraud, abuse, security incidents, and violations of our policies;
  • Review reports, enforce our Terms, and protect users and the public;
  • Analyze performance and improve the safety, reliability, accessibility, and usefulness of the Services; and
  • Comply with law, resolve disputes, and establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

3. Discovery content and private conversations

Discovery content is meant to be discovered. Information you publish to the discovery feed, including a conversation starter, topic, answer, username, or profile information, may be visible to other users. Depending on your settings and the feature you use, that audience may be broad. Do not publish information that you want to keep private.

Private messages are shared with the participants. Chats Only also processes and stores messages as needed to deliver and maintain chat. We may preserve or review messages when a participant reports a conversation, when reasonably necessary to investigate misuse or a safety issue, or when required or permitted by law.

Other users may copy, save, or share information they can see. Although our rules may restrict misuse of content, we cannot control what another user does after receiving or viewing it.

4. How we disclose information

We may disclose personal information in the following circumstances:

  • To other users: to display your profile and discovery content, show relevant matching information, and enable conversations and other user-directed interactions.
  • To service providers: to companies that provide services such as hosting, authentication, storage, communications, analytics, customer support, content moderation, fraud prevention, and security. They may process information only to provide services to us or as otherwise permitted by law.
  • For legal and safety reasons: when we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to comply with law or legal process; enforce our agreements; investigate fraud, abuse, or security issues; or protect the rights, safety, and property of Chats Only, our users, or others.
  • In a business transaction: in connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, sale of assets, or similar transaction, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections where required.
  • At your direction: when you request or consent to the disclosure.

We do not sell personal information for money.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

We and service providers acting on our behalf may use cookies, local storage, pixels, and similar technologies to keep the Services working, maintain sessions, remember preferences, understand usage, diagnose problems, and protect accounts. You can control some of these technologies through your browser or device settings. Blocking them may cause parts of the Services to stop working correctly.

Your browser may offer a "Do Not Track" setting. Because there is not a universally accepted standard for responding to these signals, the Services may not respond to all Do Not Track signals. Where applicable law requires us to recognize an opt-out preference signal, we will process that signal as required.

6. Legal bases for processing

If data-protection law requires us to identify a legal basis, we process personal information as necessary to provide the Services and perform our agreement with you; for our legitimate interests in operating, improving, securing, and protecting the Services; with your consent; and as necessary to comply with legal obligations. Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time, but doing so will not affect processing that occurred before withdrawal.

7. Data retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy. The retention period depends on the type of information, why we collected it, whether your account remains active, safety and fraud-prevention needs, and applicable legal requirements.

When information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it. We may retain certain information after account deletion when necessary to comply with law, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, prevent abuse, protect the safety of the Services, or maintain backup systems. Information may remain in backups for a limited period before being overwritten.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee that information will never be accessed, used, or disclosed improperly. You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for notifying us if you suspect unauthorized account access.

9. Your choices and privacy rights

Depending on the Services available to you, you may be able to update profile information, adjust discovery and location preferences, manage communications, block users, leave conversations, or delete content through your account settings.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Request access to or a copy of your personal information;
  • Request correction or deletion of personal information;
  • Request restriction of or object to certain processing;
  • Receive certain information in a portable format;
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
  • Opt out of certain targeted advertising, sale, sharing, or profiling activities, if applicable; and
  • Appeal our decision on a privacy request, where applicable.

To submit a privacy request, email support@chatsonly.com. Please describe your request and the account or email address involved. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. Authorized agents may submit requests where permitted by law, but we may require proof of their authority and verification of the user’s identity.

We will not discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right. Some rights are subject to exceptions, and we may retain information where permitted or required by law. If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, you may also lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

10. Children’s privacy

The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. A higher minimum age may apply in some locations. If you believe a child has provided personal information in violation of this section, contact us at support@chatsonly.com so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

11. International data transfers

Chats Only and its service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Those countries may have different data-protection laws. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers of personal information.

12. Third-party services

The Services may link to websites, applications, or services operated by others. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this Privacy Policy. We encourage you to review those policies before providing personal information.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the Services or legal requirements change. We will post the updated policy on this page and revise the "Last updated" date. If a change materially affects how we use personal information, we will provide additional notice or request consent when required by law.
