Safety at Chats Only
Curiosity needs boundaries.
Chats Only is designed for open conversation while giving every member control over each interaction.
Last updated: September 8, 2026
1. If someone is in immediate danger
Chats Only is not an emergency service. If you or someone else faces an immediate threat of violence, exploitation, self-harm, or another emergency, contact local emergency services or an appropriate crisis service in your area. After getting immediate help, report the account or content to Chats Only so we can review it.
2. Share carefully in discovery
Conversation starters, answers, usernames, interests, and profile information posted to discovery may be visible to a broad audience of users. Before posting, assume that another person could copy, save, or share what you publish.
- Do not post your home address, live location, passwords, financial details, government identification numbers, or private contact information.
- Avoid sharing a routine, workplace, school, or travel plan in enough detail for someone to locate you.
- Do not post another person’s private information without permission.
- Review your profile and discovery preferences regularly and remove information you no longer want displayed.
3. A mutual match is only an introduction
Private chat opens only after both users express interest. A match does not verify someone’s identity, background, intentions, expertise, or the accuracy of what they say. You never owe a match a reply, personal information, an explanation, or continued access to you.
Trust your judgment. Slow down if someone pressures you to move off the Services, keep the conversation secret, send money, share credentials, provide intimate content, or ignore a boundary.
4. Protect your account and personal information
- Use a strong, unique password and do not share login or verification codes.
- Be cautious with links and files, especially when they create urgency or ask you to sign in elsewhere.
- Keep early conversations within Chats Only while you establish trust.
- Do not send money, financial information, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or account credentials to someone you meet through the Services.
- If you believe your account has been accessed without permission, change your credentials and contact support promptly.
5. Recognize scams and manipulation
Scammers may build trust before asking for money or information. Warning signs include inconsistent stories, claims of an urgent emergency, guaranteed investment returns, requests to receive or transfer funds, payment by gift card or cryptocurrency, pressure to share intimate content, and threats to publish private information.
Do not comply with threats or send additional money or content. Preserve relevant usernames, messages, dates, and transaction details, then report the account. Contact your financial institution immediately if you sent money or disclosed financial credentials.
6. What to report
Please report conduct or content involving:
- Harassment, stalking, threats, bullying, hate, or encouragement of violence;
- Impersonation, fraud, scams, spam, or deceptive requests for money or information;
- Sexual exploitation, sextortion, grooming, or any sexual content involving a minor;
- Intimate images or videos shared or threatened to be shared without consent, including AI-generated or digitally altered depictions;
- Disclosure of private personal information;
- Content promoting self-harm or describing an imminent threat to someone’s safety;
- Illegal activity, malware, or attempts to bypass security and safety controls; or
- Any other violation of our Terms of Service.
7. Your conversation controls
- Mute: stop notifications without ending the conversation.
- Leave: end your participation in a conversation.
- Block: prevent an account from contacting or matching with you through available features.
- Report: send relevant information to Chats Only for safety review.
You can use these controls at any time. Blocking or reporting is appropriate even when conduct has not become overtly threatening. You do not need the other person’s permission to set a boundary.
8. How to make a report
Use the in-service report control whenever possible because it can include the account, content, or conversation context needed for review. If that control is unavailable, email support@chatsonly.com with the username involved, a description of what happened, relevant dates, and the location of the content.
Do not forward or attach sexual images of a minor. Instead, identify where the material appears so it can be handled appropriately. Reports should be truthful and made in good faith. Knowingly submitting false or manipulated reports may violate our Terms.
We may acknowledge a report, request additional information, preserve relevant records, restrict content or account features, suspend or terminate accounts, and contact law enforcement when appropriate. For privacy and security reasons, we may not be able to disclose every detail of an investigation or action taken.
9. Nonconsensual intimate images
Chats Only prohibits posting or sharing intimate images or videos without the depicted person’s consent, including realistic images created or altered with artificial intelligence. This prohibition also applies to threats to share that material.
You may request removal even if you do not have a Chats Only account. Email support@chatsonly.com with the subject line “Intimate Image Removal Request” and include:
- Enough information for us to locate the content or account;
- A statement that you are the person depicted or are authorized to act for that person;
- A statement that you did not consent to the sharing of the intimate depiction; and
- Your electronic or physical signature.
Do not attach the intimate image unless our safety team specifically requests it through a secure process. We will review removal requests promptly and, where required by law, remove qualifying content and make reasonable efforts to remove known identical copies within the required period.
Additional free resources may be available through NCMEC’s Take It Down if the image was taken when the depicted person was under 18, or through StopNCII.org if the depicted person was 18 or older.
10. Protecting minors
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and a higher minimum age may apply in some locations. Never request sexual content, sexual conversation, private contact information, or an in-person meeting from a minor. Any suspected child sexual exploitation, grooming, or sexual content involving a minor should be reported immediately.
Parents and guardians who believe a child is using Chats Only in violation of our age requirements or is at risk should contact support@chatsonly.com. In the United States, suspected online child sexual exploitation can also be reported to the NCMEC CyberTipline.
11. Meeting someone in person
Chats Only is designed for conversation and never requires an in-person meeting. If you independently choose to meet another user:
- Take time to establish trust and verify the person is who they claim to be;
- Meet in a populated public place and do not change to a private location;
- Tell someone you trust where you are going and when you expect to return;
- Arrange and control your own transportation;
- Keep your phone charged and accessible; and
- Leave immediately if you feel uncomfortable or pressured.
12. Respectful disagreement
Different opinions are welcome; abuse is not. Challenge ideas without attacking people. Do not use identity, personal history, vulnerability, or private information as a weapon. If a conversation is no longer respectful or productive, disengage and use the available controls.
13. Privacy and safety reviews
Information submitted in a report may be used to investigate the issue, enforce our policies, prevent repeated harm, and comply with law. Private messages may be reviewed when reported or when reasonably necessary to address a safety concern. For more information, read our Privacy Policy.
